Customs & Immigration

Other FAQ's

Arriving in Japan by air is a seamless experience, with major international airports like Tokyo Narita (NRT), Tokyo Haneda (HND), and Osaka Kansai (KIX) offering efficient services for travellers.

These airports are well-equipped to handle international arrivals, providing clear signage and assistance in multiple languages. Processing at Narita should take under an hour, especially with the online customs declaration.

For travellers from New Zealand, Air New Zealand flight NZ 99 arrives at Tokyo Narita Terminal 1 at around 6:15 PM JST, covering a flight duration of approximately 10 hours.

Arriving at Narita Airport Terminal 1: What to Expect

When you arrive at Narita Airport Terminal 1 from an international flight, the process is smooth and well-organized. After disembarking, follow the signs for “Arrivals” and proceed to immigration control.

Immigration & Customs Clearance Process

  1. Immigration: Present your passport, filled-out arrival information, and proof of onward travel (if asked).

  2. Biometric scan: You’ll be asked to scan your fingerprints and have a photo taken.

  3. Customs: After collecting your luggage, proceed to the Customs Inspection area. You must declare certain items and may be asked to scan your bags.
