Your Excursions

Other FAQ's

If you have booked excursions with us, these are usually, in the case of Tokyo and Kyoto, with Japan Guide Agency - if you a private tour booked with a guide for 4, 6, or 8 hours.

Closer to your departure we will provide details of your guide in your booking and let you know we have done so. You will have the guide's name, local number and contact email. You will then need to contact the guide directly by email (or WhatsApp), and liaise with them about your planned excursion.

In the first instance, please introduce yourselves by email so you are in touch. You can then arrange the meeting point and start time for your trip. In many cases it's easiest to meet at your hotel but if you prefer to meet the guide somewhere else (e.g. at the starting point for your proposed excursion) you can also do that.

Your time with your guide can be tailored to suit you. If you know exactly what you would like to do, please let the guide know. If you have a vague idea and some general preferences e.g. 'the main highlights', not too much walking, not too many temples, visit a local market, see authentic local life etc - please let the guide know. Generally, the more information you're able to provide, the better. Likewise if you have any dietary restrictions, walking issues and so on.

Equally, if you have no idea what you would like to do, you can let the guide know that you are in their hands! It will still be better to give them as much information as you can however e.g. 'don't make it too busy', or 'we want to see as much as we can!'.

All of the guides are professionally trained and licensed and English-speaking.

The Japan Guide Agency guides may be able to help you with things like obtaining a Suica Card or exchanging your Japan Rail Passes but generally it's not the best use of the time with the guide to exchange your Japan Rail Passes as the Station staff are very helpful in that regard.

Getting used to the Underground system on the other hand is useful to have your guide assist you with and may help give you some confidence in navigating your way on the Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka transit systems.
